Market Report

We are sure that you will have continued to read in the press the upward pressures on commodity prices. One of the most telling articles we came across was the one in the Caterer and Hotelkeeper of 25th March.
In the article ‘What’s up.. and what’s up even more’, the great concern they identified these rises will have, is that eventually these increases will have to be passed on the end user, the customer, which, as we all know, is a brave decision when the strength of the economy is still fragile.
The second concern was that suppliers may well start to decrease the amount of food they package.
Summary of increases
Bread and Cereals +5.1%
Fruit + 7%
Sugars + 6.6%
Meat + 2.9%
Veg + 6.3%
Fish +10.8%
Oil and Fats + 15.7%
Milk, cheese, Eggs +0.5%

We need your help!
All around the country, hospitality workers from across the industry are gearing up for a week-long fundraising festival (16-22 May) for Hospitality Action and this year we are campaigning to get every person to raise a minimum of £5. Hospitality Action Week is a great opportunity to bring everyone together and have fun, so why not make it a team effort to raise even more?
The first two HA Week’s raised a fantastic £120,000 through an array of exciting events with themed lunches, cycle-a-thons, doughnut eating competitions and skydives taking place right across the country.
So whether you think you can raise your £5 by entering our Big Prize Draw to win a trip to Dubai for two including flights; saving all the loose change in your pocket during the week or even charging your colleagues £1 for a cup of tea, the sky’s the limit, but remember – it’s all about being creative, so play it safe if you want to or let your imagination run away with you…
We have a useful fundraising pack which is full of ideas and suggestions. So, go on, soar into action and become a hero for Hospitality Action Week, the industry’s charity event of the year!
